Housing Unhoused College Students

Currently one in five Community College students and one in four University students are experiencing homelessness and food insecurity in Los Angeles. While many college students receive tuition scholarships, more often than not, the assistance does not cover housing or food. Less than 3% of Foster Students graduate from college. Leaving students with a shortfall of nearly $7,000 each year.

In 2019  a statewide survey commissioned by California community colleges revealed more than 50% of students attending California’s 113 community colleges have trouble affording healthy meals or worry about having enough food to eat.

Nearly half of students surveyed in both studies reported struggling with the high costs of housing.
